But, what about my partner?
We strongly suggest that you work through your UnHitching with your partner. Sit down with one another and talk through your situation, so that you can both come to an agreement on how best to proceed with your Iowa or Minnesota divorce. Though your UnHitchUs attorney is legally only allowed to represent you, we still advise that you’re both active in the process.
Your spouse is welcome to hire their own lawyer, but it is not necessary. DESIGN YOUR DIVORCE
If you have been an Iowa resident for at least a year, or a Minnesota resident for 180 days, you can sign up to be represented by one of our experienced divorce lawyers. After you pay your first installment, you will have access to our compassionate, guided process to gather important information your UnHitchUs lawyer will use in preparing your documents. The platform will guide you through the hard decisions, like custody schedules, finances, and other key details, one step at a time.
CONSULT YOUR LAWYER
Once you have completed all information and pay your second installment, UnHitchUs will contact you within 10 days to schedule a phone or video consultation with your online divorce lawyer. At this consultation, you will review your documents and clear up any questions you may have. We want to be sure you’re comfortable and understand everything before you sign. At the conclusion of the call, you will receive documents to sign in your inbox, which we will file to start your case in the courts.
GET UNHITCHED
Once we have filed your case and you are comfortable with your final documents, you and your spouse will sign them on your own time table using a local notary. Once UnHitchUs has received your properly signed documents, your UnHitchUs lawyer will then submit them to the court. In most cases, you are divorced as fast as 90 days later. (No divorce is final until we send you the final papers signed by the judge.)
*In rare cases you may have to go to court. Additional fees will apply if you want an UnHitchUs lawyer to accompany you to court.

HOW IS UNHITCHUS DIFFERENT FROM OTHER ONLINE DIVORCE OPTIONS?

If there is still disagreement we can refer you to a mediator who can meet with you virtually or in person for a reduced rate. Often mediation of your divorce is not needed. HOW DO WE GET THE DIVORCE SIGNED BY THE JUDGE?
Your lawyer handles submitting the documents to the court. After your consultation all your documents will be in your in-box for signature. Then you scan and send back and your lawyer takes it from there.
